55 A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
66 AN ACT
77 relating to the composition of the combative sports advisory board.
88 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
99 SECTION 1. Section 2052.055, Occupations Code, is amended
1010 by amending Subsection (b) and adding Subsection (c) to read as
1111 follows:
1212 (b) If the commission elects to appoint an advisory board,
1313 the commission shall appoint a nine-member board composed of the
1414 following:
1515 (1) four physicians;
1616 (2) one chiropractor;
1717 (3) one representative of a boxing promoter;
1818 (4) one representative of a mixed martial arts
1919 promoter;
2020 (5) one combative sports referee or judge, licensed at
2121 least three years; and
2222 (6) one former combative sports contestant.
2323 (c) If the commission appoints an advisory board, the
2424 commission by rule shall establish:
2525 (1) [the number of board members;
2626 [(2)] qualifications for appointment to the board; and
2727 (2) [(3)] the purpose and duties of the board.
2828 SECTION 2. The changes in law made by this Act to Section
2929 2052.055, Occupations Code, regarding the composition of the
3030 combative sports advisory board do not affect the entitlement of a
3131 member serving on the advisory board immediately before the
3232 effective date of this Act to continue to serve and function as a
3333 member of the advisory board for the remainder of the member's term
3434 as established by the Texas Commission of Licensing and Regulation.
3535 As the terms of members expire or as vacancies occur on the advisory
3636 board on or after the effective date of this Act, the presiding
3737 officer of the commission, with the approval of the other
3838 commission members, shall appoint members to the advisory board in
3939 a manner consistent with the changes in law made by this Act.
4040 SECTION 3. This Act takes effect September 1, 2019.
