| 8 | 8 | | BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: |

| 9 | 9 | | SECTION 1. Section 2052.055, Occupations Code, is amended |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | by amending Subsection (b) and adding Subsection (c) to read as |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | follows: |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | (b) If the commission elects to appoint an advisory board, |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | the commission shall appoint a nine-member board composed of the |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | following: |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | (1) four physicians; |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | (2) one chiropractor; |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | (3) one representative of a boxing promoter; |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | (4) one representative of a mixed martial arts |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | promoter; |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | (5) one combative sports referee or judge, licensed at |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | least three years; and |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | (6) one former combative sports contestant. |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | (c) If the commission appoints an advisory board, the |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | commission by rule shall establish: |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | (1) [the number of board members; |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | [(2)] qualifications for appointment to the board; and |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | (2) [(3)] the purpose and duties of the board. |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | SECTION 2. The changes in law made by this Act to Section |
|---|
| 29 | 29 | | 2052.055, Occupations Code, regarding the composition of the |
|---|
| 30 | 30 | | combative sports advisory board do not affect the entitlement of a |
|---|
| 31 | 31 | | member serving on the advisory board immediately before the |
|---|
| 32 | 32 | | effective date of this Act to continue to serve and function as a |
|---|
| 33 | 33 | | member of the advisory board for the remainder of the member's term |
|---|
| 34 | 34 | | as established by the Texas Commission of Licensing and Regulation. |
|---|
| 35 | 35 | | As the terms of members expire or as vacancies occur on the advisory |
|---|
| 36 | 36 | | board on or after the effective date of this Act, the presiding |
|---|
| 37 | 37 | | officer of the commission, with the approval of the other |
|---|
| 38 | 38 | | commission members, shall appoint members to the advisory board in |
|---|
| 39 | 39 | | a manner consistent with the changes in law made by this Act. |

| 40 | 40 | | SECTION 3. This Act takes effect September 1, 2019. |
