7 | 14 | | BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: |

8 | 15 | | SECTION 1. Sections 31.056(a) and (b), Natural Resources |
---|
9 | 16 | | Code, are amended to read as follows: |
---|
10 | 17 | | (a) The commissioner may [shall] prepare a revision and |
---|
11 | 18 | | compilation of the various volumes of the abstracts of patented, |
---|
12 | 19 | | titled, and surveyed real property which were previously made by |
---|
13 | 20 | | the land office. |
---|
14 | 21 | | (b) The various counties of the state may [shall] be |
---|
15 | 22 | | apportioned into [one of not more than eight] districts for the |
---|
16 | 23 | | purpose of revising and compiling the abstracts and the abstracts |
---|
17 | 24 | | of each of the districts may [shall] be compiled in a separate |
---|
18 | 25 | | volume. |
---|
19 | 26 | | SECTION 2. Section 31.0655, Natural Resources Code, is |
---|
20 | 27 | | amended to read as follows: |

21 | 28 | | Sec. 31.0655. [STATE EMPLOYEE CONTRIBUTIONS TO] SAVE TEXAS |

22 | 29 | | HISTORY AND ADOPT-A-BEACH PROGRAMS. (a) For purposes of Subchapter |

23 | 30 | | I, Chapter 659, Government Code: |
---|
24 | 31 | | (1) the land office, for the sole purpose of managing |
---|
25 | 32 | | the Save Texas History and Adopt-A-Beach programs, is considered an |
---|
26 | 33 | | eligible charitable organization entitled to participate in the |
---|
27 | 34 | | state employee charitable campaign; and |
---|
28 | 35 | | (2) a state employee is entitled to authorize a |
---|
29 | 36 | | deduction for contributions to the land office for the purposes of |
---|
30 | 37 | | managing the Save Texas History and Adopt-A-Beach programs as a |
---|
31 | 38 | | charitable contribution under Section 659.132, Government Code, |
---|
32 | 39 | | and the land office may use the contributions for the purpose of: |
---|
33 | 40 | | (A) preserving historic maps and documents under |
---|
34 | 41 | | the Save Texas History program; or |
---|
35 | 42 | | (B) administering the Adopt-A-Beach program. |
---|
36 | 43 | | (b) The land office may use cash, gifts, grants, donations, |
---|
37 | 44 | | or in-kind contributions the land office receives through the |
---|
38 | 45 | | administration of the Save Texas History program to: |
---|
39 | 46 | | (1) preserve, conserve, and promote the land office's |
---|
40 | 47 | | records; |
---|
41 | 48 | | (2) provide educational programming and resources on |
---|
42 | 49 | | Texas history; and |
---|
43 | 50 | | (3) acquire additional records to complement the land |
---|
44 | 51 | | office's records. |
---|
45 | 52 | | SECTION 3. This Act takes effect immediately if it receives |
---|
46 | 53 | | a vote of two-thirds of all the members elected to each house, as |
---|
47 | 54 | | provided by Section 39, Article III, Texas Constitution. If this |
---|
48 | 55 | | Act does not receive the vote necessary for immediate effect, this |
---|
49 | 56 | | Act takes effect September 1, 2019. |
