411 AN ACT
512 relating to powers and duties concerning records of the General
613 Land Office.
714 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
815 SECTION 1. Sections 31.056(a) and (b), Natural Resources
916 Code, are amended to read as follows:
1017 (a) The commissioner may [shall] prepare a revision and
1118 compilation of the various volumes of the abstracts of patented,
1219 titled, and surveyed real property which were previously made by
1320 the land office.
1421 (b) The various counties of the state may [shall] be
1522 apportioned into [one of not more than eight] districts for the
1623 purpose of revising and compiling the abstracts and the abstracts
1724 of each of the districts may [shall] be compiled in a separate
1825 volume.
1926 SECTION 2. Section 31.0655, Natural Resources Code, is
2027 amended to read as follows:
2128 Sec. 31.0655. [STATE EMPLOYEE CONTRIBUTIONS TO] SAVE TEXAS
2229 HISTORY AND ADOPT-A-BEACH PROGRAMS. (a) For purposes of Subchapter
2330 I, Chapter 659, Government Code:
2431 (1) the land office, for the sole purpose of managing
2532 the Save Texas History and Adopt-A-Beach programs, is considered an
2633 eligible charitable organization entitled to participate in the
2734 state employee charitable campaign; and
2835 (2) a state employee is entitled to authorize a
2936 deduction for contributions to the land office for the purposes of
3037 managing the Save Texas History and Adopt-A-Beach programs as a
3138 charitable contribution under Section 659.132, Government Code,
3239 and the land office may use the contributions for the purpose of:
3340 (A) preserving historic maps and documents under
3441 the Save Texas History program; or
3542 (B) administering the Adopt-A-Beach program.
3643 (b) The land office may use cash, gifts, grants, donations,
3744 or in-kind contributions the land office receives through the
3845 administration of the Save Texas History program to:
3946 (1) preserve, conserve, and promote the land office's
4047 records;
4148 (2) provide educational programming and resources on
4249 Texas history; and
4350 (3) acquire additional records to complement the land
4451 office's records.
4552 SECTION 3. This Act takes effect immediately if it receives
4653 a vote of two-thirds of all the members elected to each house, as
4754 provided by Section 39, Article III, Texas Constitution. If this
4855 Act does not receive the vote necessary for immediate effect, this
4956 Act takes effect September 1, 2019.
