 A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
 AN ACT
 relating to the inclusion of information about the process of
 voting as part of the social studies curriculum requirements for
 public high school students.
 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
 SECTION 1.  Section 28.002, Education Code, is amended by
 adding Subsection (c-4) to read as follows:
 (c-4)  The State Board of Education shall adopt rules
 requiring a high school student, as part of the social studies
 curriculum under Subsection (a)(1)(D), to be provided at least once
 with practical information about the process of voting in public
 elections, including specific information about using the type of
 voting machines used by the county in which the student is enrolled.
 The rules shall require a school district, to the extent
 practicable, to seek assistance and cooperation from the county
 election office in providing students with exposure to and
 experience using the applicable voting machine.
 SECTION 2.  This Act applies beginning with the 2019-2020
 school year.
 SECTION 3.  This Act takes effect immediately if it receives
 a vote of two-thirds of all the members elected to each house, as
 provided by Section 39, Article III, Texas Constitution.  If this
 Act does not receive the vote necessary for immediate effect, this
 Act takes effect September 1, 2019.
