|---|
| 9 | 9 | | BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: |

| 10 | 10 | | SECTION 1. Subchapter A, Chapter 442, Government Code, is |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | amended by adding Section 442.0089 to read as follows: |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | Sec. 442.0089. HISTORIC SITES PROGRAM. (a) The commission |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | shall identify sites in this state that are historically |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | significant to this state because significant events occurred at |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | the site that shaped the history of this state. |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | (b) The commission may designate or encourage the |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | designation of sites identified under Subsection (a) through |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | existing history programs, including: |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | (1) local community landmark programs; |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | (2) the state historical marker program under Section |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | 442.006; |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | (3) the state register of historic places under |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | Section 442.0085; |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | (4) the National Register of Historic Places; |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | (5) the National Historic Landmarks program; |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | (6) the World Heritage List; and |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | (7) other appropriate programs. |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | (c) The commission may provide information regarding the |
|---|
| 29 | 29 | | significance of the sites designated under this section using: |
|---|
| 30 | 30 | | (1) historical markers and monuments; |
|---|
| 31 | 31 | | (2) publications and films; and |
|---|
| 32 | 32 | | (3) other appropriate media. |
|---|
| 33 | 33 | | (d) The commission may seek assistance from other state and |
|---|
| 34 | 34 | | local governmental entities in carrying out the commission's duties |
|---|
| 35 | 35 | | under this section. |
|---|
| 36 | 36 | | (e) The commission may seek and accept gifts, grants, and |
|---|
| 37 | 37 | | donations from public or private sources, including seeking |
|---|
| 38 | 38 | | available federal funds, to accomplish the purposes of this |
|---|
| 39 | 39 | | section. |
|---|
| 40 | 40 | | SECTION 2. This Act takes effect September 1, 2019. |
