7 | 12 | | durations and sizes, forming friendly relations with industry |

8 | 13 | | professionals and watching with pride as local communities come to |

9 | 14 | | life on television and motion picture screens; and |

10 | 15 | | WHEREAS, The leadership of Bastrop County and the cities of |
---|
11 | 16 | | Bastrop, Elgin, and Smithville have adopted film-friendly policies |
---|
12 | 17 | | to ensure that projects operate smoothly, with minimal |
---|
13 | 18 | | inconvenience to residents and businesses; chambers of commerce, |
---|
14 | 19 | | private citizens, local agencies, and school districts actively |
---|
15 | 20 | | support film production and make their homes and facilities |
---|
16 | 21 | | available to filmmakers, understanding the economic impact these |
---|
17 | 22 | | projects have on their communities; moreover, local film |
---|
18 | 23 | | commissions provide workshops promoting dialogue between |
---|
19 | 24 | | production companies and residents; and |
---|
20 | 25 | | WHEREAS, Bastrop County is home to New Republic Studios, a |
---|
21 | 26 | | full service production company encompassing sound stages, |
---|
22 | 27 | | animation studios, and other state-of-the-art facilities; and |
---|
23 | 28 | | WHEREAS, Many residents of Bastrop County proudly support |
---|
24 | 29 | | themselves and their families through work on film projects; among |

25 | 30 | | the professionals who call the county home are writers, directors, |
---|
26 | 31 | | location scouts, actors, accountants, caterers, carpenters, |
---|
27 | 32 | | electricians, and other skilled workers; and |
---|
28 | 33 | | WHEREAS, Each year, Bastrop County and its local communities |
---|
29 | 34 | | welcome thousands of visitors who are following self-guided |
---|
30 | 35 | | sightseeing trails established by the Texas Film Commission; among |
---|
31 | 36 | | the stops on these tours are such famous locations as the family |
---|
32 | 37 | | home in Hope Floats and the Bernie courtroom; and |
---|
33 | 38 | | WHEREAS, Bastrop County residents have spent countless hours |
---|
34 | 39 | | as volunteers supporting films made in their communities; the |
---|
35 | 40 | | county has hosted hundreds of productions, from Academy |
---|
36 | 41 | | Award-nominated feature films such as The Tree of Life to fan |
---|
37 | 42 | | favorites that include Transformers: Age of Extinction and My |
---|
38 | 43 | | All-American; celebrities have received a warm welcome here, from |
---|
39 | 44 | | Julia Roberts, Jack Black, and Troy Aikman, who have strolled |
---|
40 | 45 | | Bastrop's Main Street, to Brad Pitt and Jessica Chastain, who have |
---|
41 | 46 | | enjoyed the ambiance of Smithville, to the Clydesdales, who have |
---|
42 | 47 | | paraded through downtown Elgin; and |
---|
43 | 48 | | WHEREAS, Film production companies enjoy the friendly |
---|
44 | 49 | | people, diverse settings, and ample resources of Bastrop County, |
---|
45 | 50 | | and the county is indeed worthy of recognition for its |
---|
46 | 51 | | contributions to the film industry in the Lone Star State; now, |
---|
47 | 52 | | therefore, be it |
---|
48 | 53 | | RESOLVED, That the 86th Legislature of the State of Texas |
---|
49 | 54 | | hereby designate Bastrop County as the official Film Hospitality |
---|
50 | 55 | | Capital of Texas; and, be it further |
---|
51 | 56 | | RESOLVED, That, in accordance with the provisions of Section |
---|
52 | 57 | | 391.003(e), Government Code, this designation remain in effect |
---|
53 | 58 | | until the 10th anniversary of the date this resolution is finally |
---|
54 | 59 | | passed by the legislature. |
