56 WHEREAS, Words cannot adequately express the sorrow felt by
67 the family, friends, and colleagues of Officer Nathan "Hayden"
78 Heidelberg of the Midland Police Department, who tragically lost
89 his life in the line of duty on March 5, 2019, at the age of 28; and
910 WHEREAS, Born on December 2, 1990, Hayden Heidelberg was the
1011 cherished son of Nathan and Glendene Heidelberg and the loving
1112 brother of three sisters, Amy, Molly, and Heidi; he was raised in
1213 Midland and graduated from Midland High School in 2009 before going
1314 on to study at Midland College and Sul Ross State University, where
1415 he graduated with a bachelor's degree in biology; and
1516 WHEREAS, After completing his police training in 2014,
1617 Officer Heidelberg joined the force in Midland; he embraced his
1718 calling and enjoyed having the opportunity to serve the community
1819 in which he grew up, and he had fond memories of taking trips with
1920 his fellow officers; and
2021 WHEREAS, A man of many talents and interests, Officer
2122 Heidelberg played guitar with a local band called Rocky and the
2223 Rhinestones; he also had a love of soccer, ice hockey, and snow
2324 skiing and practiced mixed martial arts; moreover, he spent many
2425 happy hours out on the lake, where he took pleasure in wakeboarding
2526 and waterskiing when he was not driving the boat for others; and
2627 WHEREAS, Officer Heidelberg's family was deeply important to
2728 him, and he was a role model to his younger relatives, including his
2829 beloved nieces, nephews, and cousins; he endeared himself to
2930 friends from all walks of life, and those who were blessed with his
3031 friendship knew him as a man who always kept his word and who was
3132 always willing to help out in any way he could; and
3233 WHEREAS, Through his courage, integrity, and dedication to
3334 duty, Officer Heidelberg represented the finest tradition of law
3435 enforcement, and he will be remembered with lasting admiration by
3536 his loved ones, his fellow officers, and the community he served so
3637 proudly; now, therefore, be it
3738 RESOLVED, That the 86th Legislature of the State of Texas
3839 hereby pay tribute to the life of Nathan Hayden Heidelberg and
3940 extend heartfelt condolences to the members of his family: to his
4041 parents, Nathan and Glendene Heidelberg; to his sisters, Amy Balch
4142 and her husband, Chris, Molly James and her husband, Richard, and
4243 Heidi McShan; to his nieces and nephews, Joel and Luke Balch,
4344 Danielle and Cheyenne Highley, Ryan and Rhett James, Drew Ferris,
4445 and Audie and Ashton McShan; to his aunts, uncles, and cousins; to
4546 his brothers and sisters in blue; and to his other relatives and
4647 friends; and, be it further
4748 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
4849 prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of
4950 Representatives and Senate adjourn this day, they do so in memory of
5051 Hayden Heidelberg.
