55 A JOINT RESOLUTION
66 proposing a constitutional amendment authorizing the legislature
77 to exempt from ad valorem taxation by one or more political
88 subdivisions of this state property located near a public school or
99 within a municipal management district that is owned for the
1010 purpose of building low-income housing.
1111 BE IT RESOLVED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
1212 SECTION 1. Article VIII, Texas Constitution, is amended by
1313 adding Section 1-w to read as follows:
1414 Sec. 1-w. (a) The legislature by general law may exempt
1515 from ad valorem taxation by one or more political subdivisions of
1616 this state property located near a public school or within a
1717 municipal management district created under general or special law
1818 to accomplish the purposes of Sections 52 and 52-a, Article III, and
1919 Section 59, Article XVI, of this constitution that is owned by a
2020 person for the purpose of building low-income housing on the
2121 property.
2222 (b) The legislature may provide additional eligibility
2323 requirements for an exemption authorized by this section.
2424 SECTION 2. This proposed constitutional amendment shall be
2525 submitted to the voters at an election to be held November 5, 2019.
2626 The ballot shall be printed to permit voting for or against the
2727 proposition: "The constitutional amendment authorizing the
2828 legislature to exempt from ad valorem taxation by one or more
2929 political subdivisions of this state property located near a public
3030 school or within a municipal management district that is owned for
3131 the purpose of building low-income housing."
