45 R E S O L U T I O N
56 WHEREAS, Carolyn Ericson, a respected member of the
67 Nacogdoches community, passed away on December 2, 2018, at the age
78 of 87; and
89 WHEREAS, The former Carolyn Reeves was born to Jonathan and
910 Emma Reeves on May 12, 1931, in Fort Stockton; during her youth, her
1011 parents took her around the country to track down their lineage, an
1112 experience that inspired her own passion for genealogy; and
1213 WHEREAS, She married Joe Ericson on July 16, 1955, in
1314 Lubbock, and the couple moved to Nacogdoches two years later;
1415 there, they raised three children, Linda, Joseph, and John, and
1516 with the passing years, Mrs. Ericson had the privilege of welcoming
1617 into her family three grandchildren, Jonathan, Angela, and William,
1718 and two great-grandchildren, Lexington and Evelyn; and
1819 WHEREAS, Over the course of her career, Mrs. Ericson
1920 performed extensive historical research, collecting approximately
2021 $200,000 worth of literature and cataloguing cemetery and census
2122 records, and she also clipped and digitized obituaries of some
2223 42,000 people buried in Nacogdoches County; in 2018, she donated
2324 much of her library to the Stephen F. Austin State University East
2425 Texas Research Center; and
2526 WHEREAS, In addition to her research, Mrs. Ericson
2627 established her own publishing company, Ericson Books, authored
2728 more than 100 books, and wrote a weekly genealogical column,
2829 "Kissin' Kuzzins," which appeared in several East Texas newspapers
2930 for more than four decades; she also served as curator of the Old
3031 Stone Fort Museum from 1972 to 1980 and took an active role in
3132 numerous genealogical and heritage societies, including the
3233 Daughters of the Republic of Texas; moreover, she was a longtime
3334 congregant of First United Methodist Church; and
3435 WHEREAS, While the death of Carolyn Ericson brings
3536 immeasurable sorrow to her family and friends, she leaves behind a
3637 legacy that will forever be treasured by all those who held her
3738 dear; now, therefore, be it
3839 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 86th Texas
3940 Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of Carolyn Ericson and
4041 extend sincere condolences to all who mourn her passing; and, be it
4142 further
4243 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
4344 prepared for her family and that when the Texas House of
4445 Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Carolyn
4546 Ericson.
