5 | 6 | | WHEREAS, Carolyn Ericson, a respected member of the |

6 | 7 | | Nacogdoches community, passed away on December 2, 2018, at the age |

7 | 8 | | of 87; and |
---|
8 | 9 | | WHEREAS, The former Carolyn Reeves was born to Jonathan and |
---|
9 | 10 | | Emma Reeves on May 12, 1931, in Fort Stockton; during her youth, her |
---|
10 | 11 | | parents took her around the country to track down their lineage, an |
---|
11 | 12 | | experience that inspired her own passion for genealogy; and |
---|
12 | 13 | | WHEREAS, She married Joe Ericson on July 16, 1955, in |
---|
13 | 14 | | Lubbock, and the couple moved to Nacogdoches two years later; |
---|
14 | 15 | | there, they raised three children, Linda, Joseph, and John, and |
---|
15 | 16 | | with the passing years, Mrs. Ericson had the privilege of welcoming |
---|
16 | 17 | | into her family three grandchildren, Jonathan, Angela, and William, |
---|
17 | 18 | | and two great-grandchildren, Lexington and Evelyn; and |
---|
18 | 19 | | WHEREAS, Over the course of her career, Mrs. Ericson |
---|
19 | 20 | | performed extensive historical research, collecting approximately |
---|
20 | 21 | | $200,000 worth of literature and cataloguing cemetery and census |
---|
21 | 22 | | records, and she also clipped and digitized obituaries of some |
---|
22 | 23 | | 42,000 people buried in Nacogdoches County; in 2018, she donated |
---|
23 | 24 | | much of her library to the Stephen F. Austin State University East |
---|
24 | 25 | | Texas Research Center; and |
---|
25 | 26 | | WHEREAS, In addition to her research, Mrs. Ericson |
---|
26 | 27 | | established her own publishing company, Ericson Books, authored |
---|
27 | 28 | | more than 100 books, and wrote a weekly genealogical column, |
---|
28 | 29 | | "Kissin' Kuzzins," which appeared in several East Texas newspapers |
---|
29 | 30 | | for more than four decades; she also served as curator of the Old |
---|
30 | 31 | | Stone Fort Museum from 1972 to 1980 and took an active role in |
---|
31 | 32 | | numerous genealogical and heritage societies, including the |
---|
32 | 33 | | Daughters of the Republic of Texas; moreover, she was a longtime |
---|
33 | 34 | | congregant of First United Methodist Church; and |
---|
34 | 35 | | WHEREAS, While the death of Carolyn Ericson brings |
---|
35 | 36 | | immeasurable sorrow to her family and friends, she leaves behind a |
---|
36 | 37 | | legacy that will forever be treasured by all those who held her |
---|
37 | 38 | | dear; now, therefore, be it |
---|
38 | 39 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 86th Texas |

39 | 40 | | Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of Carolyn Ericson and |
---|
40 | 41 | | extend sincere condolences to all who mourn her passing; and, be it |
