45 R E S O L U T I O N
56 WHEREAS, Countless lives were touched by the kindness and
67 generosity of Doris Ann Brown Morriss of Sonora, who passed away on
78 March 5, 2019, at the age of 89; and

9- s Brown was born to Steve and Elsie
9+ WHEREAS, The former Doris Brown was born to Steve and Elsie
1010 Brown on August 13, 1929, in Rocksprings and grew up with a sister,
1111 D., and two brothers, Steve and Horace; she graduated from high
1212 school in Rocksprings and went on to earn a bachelor's degree at
1313 Southwestern University in home economics; and
1414 WHEREAS, She married Tommy Morriss on June 10, 1950, and in
1515 the course of a rewarding union that spanned 58 years, the couple
1616 lived in Balmorhea, Uvalde, and Sonora, where they owned a ranch;
1717 Mrs. Morris excelled as a homemaker, cook, and hostess, and she was
1818 also involved in several sewing clubs and enjoyed making
1919 handicrafts; she took great pride in her children, Mindy, Ann, and
2020 Steve, and with the passing years, she had the pleasure of seeing
2121 her family grow to include seven grandchildren, Travis, Morriss,
2222 Holly, Ashlie, Desirae, Ethan, and Stephani, and eight
2323 great-grandchildren, Cooper, Clay Tom, Hudson, James, Will,
2424 Payton, Thomas, and Bronson; and
2525 WHEREAS, Strong in her faith, Mrs. Morriss made church a
2626 priority throughout her life, and she participated in a number of
2727 church groups; in addition, she served as president of the Uvalde
2828 Area Chamber of Commerce and gave freely of her time and talents to
2929 the Uvalde Grand Opera House and the women's auxiliary for Lillian
3030 M. Hudspeth Memorial Hospital in Sonora; and
3131 WHEREAS, Doris Morriss lived a life that was rich in family,
3232 friends, and community service, and those who were privileged to
3333 share in her love and affection will forever hold her close in their
3434 hearts; now, therefore, be it
3535 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 86th Texas
3636 Legislature hereby pay tribute to the memory of Doris Ann Brown
3737 Morriss and extend sincere condolences to all who mourn her
3838 passing; and, be it further
3939 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
4040 prepared for her family and that when the Texas House of
4141 Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Doris
4242 Morriss.
