5 | 6 | | WHEREAS, Dr. Stephen L. Mansfield is retiring as president |

6 | 7 | | and CEO of Methodist Health System on December 31, 2019, and it is |

7 | 8 | | indeed fitting to recognize him as he prepares to conclude a tenure |
---|
8 | 9 | | characterized by tremendous achievement; and |
---|
9 | 10 | | WHEREAS, Since Dr. Mansfield took the reins of Methodist |
---|
10 | 11 | | Health System in 2006, it has grown from 2 acute care hospitals to |
---|
11 | 12 | | 10 hospital campuses; along the way, his leadership has been |
---|
12 | 13 | | instrumental in helping Methodist Health improve its bond rating, |
---|
13 | 14 | | and it is currently ranked by Moody's among the top 16 percent of |
---|
14 | 15 | | not-for-profit health systems and hospitals for financial |
---|
15 | 16 | | strength; the institution has also seen substantial gains in |
---|
16 | 17 | | clinical quality and safety, patient and employee satisfaction, and |
---|
17 | 18 | | physician experience scores, which set it apart as one of the |
---|
18 | 19 | | nation's best health care providers today; and |
---|
19 | 20 | | WHEREAS, Dr. Mansfield holds a Ph.D. in organizational |
---|
20 | 21 | | leadership from Regent University in Virginia Beach, Virginia, a |
---|
21 | 22 | | master of business administration degree from the University of |
---|
22 | 23 | | Tennessee at Martin, and a bachelor's degree from Ottawa University |
---|
23 | 24 | | in Ottawa, Kansas; he has worked for a total of 46 years in the |
---|
24 | 25 | | health care field and previously served as president and CEO of |
---|
25 | 26 | | St. Vincent Health System in Little Rock, Arkansas; and |
---|
26 | 27 | | WHEREAS, This dynamic executive has also benefited many civic |
---|
27 | 28 | | organizations with his dedication and expertise, including the |
---|
28 | 29 | | boards of the Dallas Foundation, the Dallas Citizens Council, and |
---|
29 | 30 | | the Dallas Regional Chamber, which he chaired in 2014; in addition, |
---|
30 | 31 | | he recently completed a three-year term on the Large Healthcare |
---|
31 | 32 | | Systems Policy Board for the American Hospital Association while |
---|
32 | 33 | | serving a number of other health care industry associations and |
---|
33 | 34 | | committees; in honor of his contributions, he has received a host of |
---|
34 | 35 | | accolades, such as the 2017 Virginia Chandler Dykes Leadership |
---|
35 | 36 | | Award from Texas Woman's University, and he was named Healthcare |
---|
36 | 37 | | Executive of the Year by D Magazine in 2014; and |
---|
37 | 38 | | WHEREAS, Dr. Stephen Mansfield has guided Methodist Health |
---|
38 | 39 | | System to new heights of success, and when he departs from his |
---|
39 | 40 | | position at its helm, he may take satisfaction in knowing that his |
---|
40 | 41 | | accomplishments will continue to improve the lives of countless |
---|
41 | 42 | | patients and employees for years to come; now, therefore, be it |
---|
42 | 43 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 86th Texas |
---|
43 | 44 | | Legislature hereby honor Dr. Stephen L. Mansfield for his |
---|
44 | 45 | | outstanding service as president and CEO of Methodist Health System |
---|
45 | 46 | | and extend to him sincere best wishes for the future; and, be it |
