| 8 | 9 | | WHEREAS, The son of Arthur and Carrie Guthrie, Harmon Guthrie |

| 9 | 10 | | was born on November 8, 1928, in Athens and grew up with three |
|---|
| 10 | 11 | | siblings, Millie, Travis, and Bill; he was joined in matrimony to |
|---|
| 11 | 12 | | Frances Williams in 1958, and the couple shared a rewarding |
|---|
| 12 | 13 | | marriage that spanned 60 years; he took great pride in his son, |
|---|
| 13 | 14 | | Travis, and in his stepsons, Bobby, Terry, David, Ronnie, Wayne, |
|---|
| 14 | 15 | | and James, and he had the pleasure of seeing his family grow to |
|---|
| 15 | 16 | | include numerous grandchildren; and |
|---|
| 16 | 17 | | WHEREAS, Answering his nation's call to duty, Mr. Guthrie |

| 17 | 18 | | enlisted in the U.S. Navy in January 1946, at the age of 17, and was |
|---|
| 18 | 19 | | deployed to the Pacific; during the Korean War, he served for two |
|---|
| 19 | 20 | | years aboard a destroyer, the USS Cushing, and he subsequently |
|---|
| 20 | 21 | | enlisted in the U.S. Air Force, serving as a jet engine technician |
|---|
| 21 | 22 | | in the Cold War and Vietnam War before retiring in 1969 at the rank |
|---|
| 22 | 23 | | of technical sergeant; in civilian life, he worked for more than 15 |
|---|
| 23 | 24 | | years as a keel operator in the clay industry in Texas; and |
|---|
| 24 | 25 | | WHEREAS, A devoted family man and a proud veteran, Harmon |

| 25 | 26 | | Guthrie leaves behind a legacy of generosity, humility, and |

| 26 | 27 | | strength that will continue to inspire all those who knew and loved |

| 27 | 28 | | him; now, therefore, be it |

| 28 | 29 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 86th Texas |

| 29 | 30 | | Legislature hereby pay tribute to the memory of Harmon Avon Guthrie |
