45 R E S O L U T I O N
56 WHEREAS, Memories of a life filled with joyful times and
67 meaningful accomplishments remain to comfort the family and friends
78 of Jack Raymond Stone, who passed away on August 13, 2017, at the
89 age of 86; and
910 WHEREAS, Jack Stone was born to Marshall and Jewell Stone on
1011 September 8, 1930, in Nacogdoches; he graduated from both
1112 Nacogdoches High School and Stephen F. Austin State University with
1213 honors and served in the United States military; and
1314 WHEREAS, Mr. Stone enjoyed a successful career in banking,
1415 and he served the First State Bank of Wells as president; he also
1516 chaired the Texas Parks and Wildlife Commission, and he helped the
1617 Texas State Railroad's "iron horse" become a nationally recognized
1718 tourist attraction; at the age of 60, he moved to Montana, where he
1819 embarked on a second career as an attorney and won a case before the
1920 Montana Supreme Court; and
2021 WHEREAS, A dedicated family man, Mr. Stone wed Shirley Bailey
2122 on August 2, 1952, and the couple shared a rewarding marriage that
2223 spanned nearly four decades; following Mrs. Stone's death in 1991,
2324 Mr. Stone was fortunate enough to find love again with his second
2425 wife, the former Sara Benchoff; he took great pride in his children,
2526 Robin and Bryant, and his stepchildren, Ed and Sara, and with the
2627 passing years, he was further blessed with a number of cherished
2728 grandchildren; and
2829 WHEREAS, In his leisure time, Mr. Stone could often be found
2930 hunting, fishing, or simply enjoying the outdoors; he received
3031 numerous awards for his contributions to his community, and he
3132 published an autobiography, Every Man Dies, Not Every Man Lives, in
3233 2010; and
3334 WHEREAS, While the death of Jack Stone has brought
3435 immeasurable sorrow to his family and friends, he has left behind a
3536 legacy that will forever be treasured by all those who held him
3637 dear; now, therefore, be it
3738 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 86th Texas
3839 Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of Jack Raymond Stone and
3940 extend sincere condolences to his loved ones; and, be it further
4041 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
4142 prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of
4243 Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Jack Stone.
