45 R E S O L U T I O N
56 WHEREAS, Residents of Young County lost an admired civic
67 leader with the passing of former county judge Ken Andrews of Graham
78 on February 9, 2019, at the age of 80; and
89 WHEREAS, The son of Ben and Dorothy Andrews, Ken Andrews was
910 born in Young County on July 10, 1938; during his youth, he attained
1011 the rank of Eagle Scout, and he graduated in 1956 from Graham High
1112 School; as a student at The University of Texas, he joined the
1213 Silver Spurs and helped care for Bevo VII; he earned both a
1314 bachelor's degree and a law degree and became a proud Texas Ex,
1415 rarely missing a broadcast of a UT sporting event; and
1516 WHEREAS, In 1965, Mr. Andrews began practicing law in Graham;
1617 he served as county attorney from 1972 to 1984, and in 1989, he
1718 stepped in to complete the term of a county judge who resigned; he
1819 later won election to the position and served for two terms; in
1920 addition, he was president of the Rotary Club and served on the
2021 board of Graham Savings & Loan; he advocated for mental health
2122 resources as chair of Helen Farabee Centers and as a member of the
2223 board of the Texas Council of Community Centers; moreover, he was a
2324 member of the Young County Democrats and a deacon and elder at the
2425 First Presbyterian Church; a farmer and rancher as well as an
2526 attorney, he never retired; and
2627 WHEREAS, Mr. Andrews shared a rewarding marriage of 47 years
2728 with his wife, Mary, before her passing; he was the proud father of
2829 two daughters, Jennifer and Katherine, and he delighted in spending
2930 time with his treasured grandchildren, as well as members of his
3031 extended family; over the years, his warm, gracious nature endeared
3132 him to countless people, and he quietly extended help to many in
3233 need; and
3334 WHEREAS, Deeply devoted to his family and his community, Ken
3435 Andrews made a meaningful difference in the lives of his loved ones
3536 and fellow citizens alike, and his contributions will be fondly
3637 remembered for years to come; now, therefore, be it
3738 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 86th Texas
3839 Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of the Honorable Ken
3940 Andrews and extend sincere sympathy to his family and friends; and,
4041 be it further
4142 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
4243 prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of
4344 Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Ken
4445 Andrews.
