5 | 6 | | WHEREAS, Residents of Young County lost an admired civic |

6 | 7 | | leader with the passing of former county judge Ken Andrews of Graham |
---|
7 | 8 | | on February 9, 2019, at the age of 80; and |
---|
8 | 9 | | WHEREAS, The son of Ben and Dorothy Andrews, Ken Andrews was |
---|
9 | 10 | | born in Young County on July 10, 1938; during his youth, he attained |
---|
10 | 11 | | the rank of Eagle Scout, and he graduated in 1956 from Graham High |
---|
11 | 12 | | School; as a student at The University of Texas, he joined the |
---|
12 | 13 | | Silver Spurs and helped care for Bevo VII; he earned both a |
---|
13 | 14 | | bachelor's degree and a law degree and became a proud Texas Ex, |
---|
14 | 15 | | rarely missing a broadcast of a UT sporting event; and |
---|
15 | 16 | | WHEREAS, In 1965, Mr. Andrews began practicing law in Graham; |
---|
16 | 17 | | he served as county attorney from 1972 to 1984, and in 1989, he |
---|
17 | 18 | | stepped in to complete the term of a county judge who resigned; he |
---|
18 | 19 | | later won election to the position and served for two terms; in |
---|
19 | 20 | | addition, he was president of the Rotary Club and served on the |
---|
20 | 21 | | board of Graham Savings & Loan; he advocated for mental health |
---|
21 | 22 | | resources as chair of Helen Farabee Centers and as a member of the |
---|
22 | 23 | | board of the Texas Council of Community Centers; moreover, he was a |
---|
23 | 24 | | member of the Young County Democrats and a deacon and elder at the |
---|
24 | 25 | | First Presbyterian Church; a farmer and rancher as well as an |
---|
25 | 26 | | attorney, he never retired; and |
---|
26 | 27 | | WHEREAS, Mr. Andrews shared a rewarding marriage of 47 years |
---|
27 | 28 | | with his wife, Mary, before her passing; he was the proud father of |
---|
28 | 29 | | two daughters, Jennifer and Katherine, and he delighted in spending |
---|
29 | 30 | | time with his treasured grandchildren, as well as members of his |
---|
30 | 31 | | extended family; over the years, his warm, gracious nature endeared |
---|
31 | 32 | | him to countless people, and he quietly extended help to many in |
---|
32 | 33 | | need; and |
---|
33 | 34 | | WHEREAS, Deeply devoted to his family and his community, Ken |
---|
34 | 35 | | Andrews made a meaningful difference in the lives of his loved ones |
---|
35 | 36 | | and fellow citizens alike, and his contributions will be fondly |
---|
36 | 37 | | remembered for years to come; now, therefore, be it |
---|
37 | 38 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 86th Texas |
---|
38 | 39 | | Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of the Honorable Ken |
---|
39 | 40 | | Andrews and extend sincere sympathy to his family and friends; and, |

40 | 41 | | be it further |
