H.R. No. 663 R E S O L U T I O N WHEREAS, Residents of Young County lost an admired civic leader with the passing of former county judge Ken Andrews of Graham on February 9, 2019, at the age of 80; and WHEREAS, The son of Ben and Dorothy Andrews, Ken Andrews was born in Young County on July 10, 1938; during his youth, he attained the rank of Eagle Scout, and he graduated in 1956 from Graham High School; as a student at The University of Texas, he joined the Silver Spurs and helped care for Bevo VII; he earned both a bachelor's degree and a law degree and became a proud Texas Ex, rarely missing a broadcast of a UT sporting event; and WHEREAS, In 1965, Mr. Andrews began practicing law in Graham; he served as county attorney from 1972 to 1984, and in 1989, he stepped in to complete the term of a county judge who resigned; he later won election to the position and served for two terms; in addition, he was president of the Rotary Club and served on the board of Graham Savings & Loan; he advocated for mental health resources as chair of Helen Farabee Centers and as a member of the board of the Texas Council of Community Centers; moreover, he was a member of the Young County Democrats and a deacon and elder at the First Presbyterian Church; a farmer and rancher as well as an attorney, he never retired; and WHEREAS, Mr. Andrews shared a rewarding marriage of 47 years with his wife, Mary, before her passing; he was the proud father of two daughters, Jennifer and Katherine, and he delighted in spending time with his treasured grandchildren, as well as members of his extended family; over the years, his warm, gracious nature endeared him to countless people, and he quietly extended help to many in need; and WHEREAS, Deeply devoted to his family and his community, Ken Andrews made a meaningful difference in the lives of his loved ones and fellow citizens alike, and his contributions will be fondly remembered for years to come; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 86th Texas Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of the Honorable Ken Andrews and extend sincere sympathy to his family and friends; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Ken Andrews.
