| 7 | 9 | | BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: |

| 8 | 10 | | SECTION 1. Section 481.0766, Health and Safety Code, is |
|---|
| 9 | 11 | | amended by adding Subsection (c) to read as follows: |

| 10 | 12 | | (c) The board shall make the information reported under |
|---|
| 11 | 13 | | Subsection (a) available to the State Board of Veterinary Medical |
|---|
| 12 | 14 | | Examiners for the purpose of routine inspections and |
|---|
| 13 | 15 | | investigations. |

| 14 | 16 | | SECTION 2. Section 801.307, Occupations Code, is amended by |
|---|
| 15 | 17 | | adding Subsection (a-1) to read as follows: |
|---|
| 16 | 18 | | (a-1) The board shall require a veterinarian to complete two |
|---|
| 17 | 19 | | hours of continuing education related to opioid abuse and |
|---|
| 18 | 20 | | controlled substance diversion, inventory, and security every two |
|---|
| 19 | 21 | | years to renew a license to practice veterinary medicine. |
|---|
| 20 | 22 | | SECTION 3. Section 801.307(a-1), Occupations Code, as added |
|---|
| 21 | 23 | | by this Act, applies only to the renewal of a license to practice |
|---|
| 22 | 24 | | veterinary medicine on or after September 1, 2020. The renewal of a |
|---|
| 23 | 25 | | license before that date is governed by the law in effect |
|---|
| 24 | 26 | | immediately before the effective date of this Act, and the former |
|---|
| 25 | 27 | | law is continued in effect for that purpose. |
|---|
| 26 | 28 | | SECTION 4. This Act takes effect September 1, 2019. |
