 A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
 AN ACT
 relating to physician delegation of the provision of anesthesia
 services to certain anesthesiologist assistants.
 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
 SECTION 1.  The heading to Subchapter B, Chapter 157,
 Occupations Code, is amended to read as follows:
 SUBCHAPTER B. DELEGATION TO ADVANCED PRACTICE REGISTERED NURSES,
 [AND] PHYSICIAN ASSISTANTS, AND ANESTHESIOLOGIST ASSISTANTS
 SECTION 2.  Subchapter B, Chapter 157, Occupations Code, is
 amended by adding Section 157.061 to read as follows:
 Sec. 157.061.  DELEGATION TO CERTAIN ANESTHESIOLOGIST
 ASSISTANTS. (a) In a licensed hospital or ambulatory surgical
 center, a supervising physician who is an anesthesiologist may
 delegate the administration and provision of an anesthetic or an
 anesthesia-related service ordered by the supervising physician to
 an anesthesiologist assistant who:
 (1)  has passed the Certifying Examination for
 Anesthesiologist Assistants administered by the National
 Commission for Certification of Anesthesiologist Assistants or the
 commission's successor entity; and
 (2)  holds a certificate issued by the National
 Commission for Certification of Anesthesiologist Assistants or the
 commission's successor entity.
 (b)  The supervising physician's order for an anesthetic or
 an anesthesia-related service is not required to specify a drug,
 dose, or administration technique.
 SECTION 3.  This Act takes effect September 1, 2019.
