106 AN ACT
117 relating to compensation under the Crime Victims' Compensation Act
128 for certain expenses.
139 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
1410 SECTION 1. Article 56.42(d), Code of Criminal Procedure, is
1511 amended to read as follows:
1612 (d) A [victim who is a] victim of stalking, family violence,
1713 or trafficking of persons, [or] a victim of sexual assault who is
1814 assaulted in the victim's place of residence, or a child who is a
1915 victim of a murder attempt in the child's place of residence may
2016 receive a onetime-only assistance payment in an amount not to
2117 exceed:
2218 (1) $2,000 to be used for relocation expenses,
2319 including expenses for rental deposit, utility connections,
2420 expenses relating to the moving of belongings, motor vehicle
2521 mileage expenses, and for out-of-state moves, transportation,
2622 lodging, and meals; and
2723 (2) $1,800 to be used for housing rental expenses.
2824 SECTION 2. The change in law made by this Act applies only
2925 to a victim of a criminal offense committed on or after the
3026 effective date of this Act. A criminal offense committed before the
3127 effective date of this Act is governed by the law in effect on the
3228 date the offense was committed, and the former law is continued in
3329 effect for that purpose. For purposes of this section, a criminal
3430 offense was committed before the effective date of this Act if any
3531 element of the offense occurred before that date.
3632 SECTION 3. This Act takes effect September 1, 2019.
