57 relating to the eligibility of persons convicted of certain
68 offenses to serve as a member of a board of trustees of a school
79 district.
810 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
911 SECTION 1. Section 11.066, Education Code, is amended to
1012 read as follows:
11- Sec. 11.066. ELIGIBILITY FOR SERVICE BY TRUSTEE CONVICTED
12- OF CERTAIN OFFENSES [OFFENSE]. A person is ineligible to serve as a
13- member of the board of trustees of a school district if the person
14- has been convicted of a felony or an offense under Section 43.02(b),
15- Penal Code.
13+ Sec. 11.066. ELIGIBILITY FOR SERVICE BY TRUSTEE WHO IS
14+ CONVICTED OF CERTAIN OFFENSES OR WHO PLEADS GUILTY OR NOLO
15+ CONTENDERE TO THOSE OFFENSES [OFFENSE]. A person is ineligible to
16+ serve as a member of the board of trustees of a school district if
17+ the person has been convicted of or pleaded guilty or nolo
18+ contendere to a felony or an offense under Section 43.02(b), Penal
19+ Code.
1620 SECTION 2. Section 11.066, Education Code, as amended by
1721 this Act, applies only to a member of a board of trustees of a school
1822 district who is elected or appointed on or after the effective date
1923 of this Act. A member of a board of trustees of a school district
2024 elected or appointed before the effective date of this Act
2125 continues to serve for the term to which the member was elected or
2226 appointed unless otherwise removed as provided by law.
2327 SECTION 3. This Act takes effect September 1, 2019.
