| 7 | 9 | | BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: |

| 8 | 10 | | SECTION 1. Subchapter B, Chapter 28, Education Code, is |
|---|
| 9 | 11 | | amended by adding Section 28.02123 to read as follows: |
|---|
| 10 | 12 | | Sec. 28.02123. NOTIFICATION OF CERTAIN HIGH SCHOOL |
|---|
| 11 | 13 | | GRADUATION REQUIREMENTS. (a) Not later than September 1 of each |
|---|
| 12 | 14 | | school year, a school district shall notify by regular mail or |
|---|
| 13 | 15 | | e-mail the parent of or other person standing in parental relation |
|---|
| 14 | 16 | | to each student enrolled in grade nine or above that the student is |
|---|
| 15 | 17 | | not required to complete an Algebra II course to graduate under the |
|---|
| 16 | 18 | | foundation high school program. |
|---|
| 17 | 19 | | (b) The notification must include information regarding the |
|---|
| 18 | 20 | | potential consequences to a student of not completing an Algebra II |
|---|
| 19 | 21 | | course, including the impact on eligibility for: |
|---|
| 20 | 22 | | (1) automatic college admission under Section 51.803; |
|---|
| 21 | 23 | | and |
|---|
| 22 | 24 | | (2) certain financial aid authorized under Title 3, |
|---|
| 23 | 25 | | including: |
|---|
| 24 | 26 | | (A) the TEXAS grant program under Subchapter M, |
|---|
| 25 | 27 | | Chapter 56; and |
|---|
| 26 | 28 | | (B) the Texas Educational Opportunity Grant |
|---|
| 27 | 29 | | Program under Subchapter P, Chapter 56. |
|---|
| 28 | 30 | | SECTION 2. This Act applies beginning with the 2019-2020 |
|---|
| 29 | 31 | | school year. |
|---|
| 30 | 32 | | SECTION 3. This Act takes effect immediately if it receives |
|---|
| 31 | 33 | | a vote of two-thirds of all the members elected to each house, as |
|---|
| 32 | 34 | | provided by Section 39, Article III, Texas Constitution. If this |
|---|
| 33 | 35 | | Act does not receive the vote necessary for immediate effect, this |
|---|
| 34 | 36 | | Act takes effect September 1, 2019. |
