| 2 | 2 | | WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas pays tribute to |

| 3 | 3 | | the community of Sutherland Springs in solemn remembrance of the |

| 4 | 4 | | tragic event that took place at the town's First Baptist Church |

| 5 | 5 | | on November 5, 2017; and |
|---|
| 6 | 6 | | WHEREAS, Twenty-six beloved church members lost their |
|---|
| 7 | 7 | | lives that day; twenty more were wounded, and countless lives |
|---|
| 8 | 8 | | were forever changed when a gunman opened fire on the |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | congregation during Sunday services; and |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | WHEREAS, Almost everyone in the small community was |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | directly affected by this terrible event; many lost more than one |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | family member or close friend in the tragedy; and |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | WHEREAS, Warmly remembered by their families, their fellow |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | church members, and their neighbors and townspeople, those who |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | died were fathers and mothers, sisters and brothers, aunts, |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | uncles, grandparents, and children, all irreplaceable members of |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | a close-knit community that continues to mourn them; and |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | WHEREAS, The people of Sutherland Springs have |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | demonstrated exceptional resilience and have supported one |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | another with love and understanding as they have struggled to |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | carry on with their lives after this unimaginable loss; now, |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | therefore, be it |

| 23 | 23 | | RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 86th |

| 24 | 24 | | Legislature, hereby honor the lives of those who died in the |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | Sutherland Springs tragedy, recognize the members of this strong |

| 26 | 26 | | and resilient community for their perseverance and commitment to |
