SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 164 WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas pays tribute to the community of Sutherland Springs in solemn remembrance of the tragic event that took place at the town's First Baptist Church on November 5, 2017; and WHEREAS, Twenty-six beloved church members lost their lives that day; twenty more were wounded, and countless lives were forever changed when a gunman opened fire on the congregation during Sunday services; and WHEREAS, Almost everyone in the small community was directly affected by this terrible event; many lost more than one family member or close friend in the tragedy; and WHEREAS, Warmly remembered by their families, their fellow church members, and their neighbors and townspeople, those who died were fathers and mothers, sisters and brothers, aunts, uncles, grandparents, and children, all irreplaceable members of a close-knit community that continues to mourn them; and WHEREAS, The people of Sutherland Springs have demonstrated exceptional resilience and have supported one another with love and understanding as they have struggled to carry on with their lives after this unimaginable loss; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 86th Legislature, hereby honor the lives of those who died in the Sutherland Springs tragedy, recognize the members of this strong and resilient community for their perseverance and commitment to helping one another, and extend heartfelt wishes for continued recovery and healing to all members of the community of Sutherland Springs.
