                            SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 234
 In Memory
 of
 John Ingram
 WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas honors and
 commemorates the life of John Ingram, a beloved Dallas citizen
 and pioneering businessman, who passed away on February 16,
 2019; and
 WHEREAS, Born April 3, 1934, John Ingram grew up in
 Marshall, Texas, where he received his education and developed
 aspirations of becoming a successful entrepreneur; he went on to
 attend Southwestern Business School in Dallas, and he served with
 distinction in the United States Army; and
 WHEREAS, John learned the specifics of the formal-wear
 business while working for a company in downtown Dallas during a
 time when African American citizens could not rent attire from
 white-owned formal-wear shops; he opened his first store,
 Mr. Formal, in 1961, and he worked multiple jobs while his
 business was struggling and growing slowly; over the years, due
 to his hard work and commitment, his shop became a highly
 successful minority-owned business, and he expanded his business
 to nine locations; and
 WHEREAS, A man of deep spiritual faith, John Ingram shared
 a life of purpose with Joan Ingram, his devoted wife of 49 years;
 their seven children, Sabrina, Demetrius, Sharmane, Johnetta,
 Larry, Bonita, and Rodney, were a source of pride and joy for him;
 John cherished time spent with his many friends and loved ones,
 and he enriched the lives of others through his exemplary
 strength and courage; and
 WHEREAS, An esteemed member of his community, John Ingram
 donated both his time and the use of his formal wear to numerous
 organizations, and he was a trusted mentor to many young
 entrepreneurs; he inspired others through his kindness,
 generosity, and determination, and he will long be remembered
 with respect and admiration by all who were privileged to share
 in his life; now, therefore, be it
 RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 86th
 Legislature, hereby extend sincere condolences to the bereaved
 family of John Ingram; and, be it further
 RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
 his family as an expression of deepest sympathy from the Texas
 Senate and that when the Senate adjourns this day, it do so in
 memory of John Ingram.
