55 WHEREAS, Betty Ann Cox of Tyler, an inspiring educator and
66 a deeply cherished wife, mother, grandmother, and friend, passed
77 away on January 19, 2019, at the age of 87; and
88 WHEREAS, Born in Denton on August 10, 1931, to Henry and
99 Neva Riek, the former Betty Riek grew up with the companionship
1010 of a brother, Bob; on June 12, 1953, she was joined in matrimony
1111 to Dale Cox, with whom she shared 58 years of marriage before his
1212 passing; the couple raised two children, Greg and Deanie, and
1313 Mrs. Cox later experienced the joy of welcoming into her
1414 treasured family three grandchildren, Sarah, Brooke, and Peyton,
1515 and two great-grandchildren, Paxton and Addie; and
1616 WHEREAS, Mrs. Cox received her bachelor's degree from
1717 Hardin-Simmons University and her master's degree from Stephen
1818 F. Austin State University; she enjoyed a rewarding career with
1919 the Tyler Independent School District, where she served as a
2020 teacher, principal, and director of elementary education; she
2121 was renowned for the personal attention that she gave to her
2222 students, and she was respected greatly as a role model by those
2323 who worked alongside her; and
2424 WHEREAS, A woman of strong faith, Mrs. Cox was a member of
2525 the First Baptist Church of Tyler for 56 years, and she
2626 contributed to her congregation by teaching Sunday school,
2727 singing in the choir, and serving on committees; she was
2828 unstintingly generous with her time, and she was always a
2929 positive and encouraging influence on others; and
3030 WHEREAS, Betty Cox dedicated her life to her family, her
3131 faith, and her profession, and she made the world a brighter
3232 place for all who were fortunate enough to know her; now,
3333 therefore, be it
3434 RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 86th
3535 Legislature, hereby pay tribute to the life of Betty Ann Cox and
3636 extend sincere sympathy to the members of her family: to her
3737 children, Greg Cox and his wife, Lala, and Deanie McDonough and
3838 her husband, Nick; to her grandchildren, Sarah Santone and her
3939 husband, Jonathon, Brooke Lowthorp and her husband, Nathan, and
4040 Peyton McDonough and his fiancée, Tina Hetherington; to her
4141 great-grandchildren, Paxton and Addie Santone; to her brother,
4242 Bob Riek, and his wife, Marlene; and to her many other relatives
4343 and friends; and, be it further
4444 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this Resolution be
4545 prepared for her family and that when the Texas Senate adjourns
4646 this day, it do so in memory of Betty Cox.
