5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, Betty Ann Cox of Tyler, an inspiring educator and |

6 | 6 | | a deeply cherished wife, mother, grandmother, and friend, passed |
---|
7 | 7 | | away on January 19, 2019, at the age of 87; and |
---|
8 | 8 | | WHEREAS, Born in Denton on August 10, 1931, to Henry and |
---|
9 | 9 | | Neva Riek, the former Betty Riek grew up with the companionship |
---|
10 | 10 | | of a brother, Bob; on June 12, 1953, she was joined in matrimony |
---|
11 | 11 | | to Dale Cox, with whom she shared 58 years of marriage before his |
---|
12 | 12 | | passing; the couple raised two children, Greg and Deanie, and |
---|
13 | 13 | | Mrs. Cox later experienced the joy of welcoming into her |
---|
14 | 14 | | treasured family three grandchildren, Sarah, Brooke, and Peyton, |
---|
15 | 15 | | and two great-grandchildren, Paxton and Addie; and |
---|
16 | 16 | | WHEREAS, Mrs. Cox received her bachelor's degree from |
---|
17 | 17 | | Hardin-Simmons University and her master's degree from Stephen |
---|
18 | 18 | | F. Austin State University; she enjoyed a rewarding career with |
---|
19 | 19 | | the Tyler Independent School District, where she served as a |
---|
20 | 20 | | teacher, principal, and director of elementary education; she |
---|
21 | 21 | | was renowned for the personal attention that she gave to her |
---|
22 | 22 | | students, and she was respected greatly as a role model by those |
---|
23 | 23 | | who worked alongside her; and |
---|
24 | 24 | | WHEREAS, A woman of strong faith, Mrs. Cox was a member of |
---|
25 | 25 | | the First Baptist Church of Tyler for 56 years, and she |
---|
26 | 26 | | contributed to her congregation by teaching Sunday school, |
---|
27 | 27 | | singing in the choir, and serving on committees; she was |
---|
28 | 28 | | unstintingly generous with her time, and she was always a |
---|
29 | 29 | | positive and encouraging influence on others; and |
---|
30 | 30 | | WHEREAS, Betty Cox dedicated her life to her family, her |
---|
31 | 31 | | faith, and her profession, and she made the world a brighter |
---|
32 | 32 | | place for all who were fortunate enough to know her; now, |
---|
33 | 33 | | therefore, be it |
---|
34 | 34 | | RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 86th |
---|
35 | 35 | | Legislature, hereby pay tribute to the life of Betty Ann Cox and |
---|
36 | 36 | | extend sincere sympathy to the members of her family: to her |
---|
37 | 37 | | children, Greg Cox and his wife, Lala, and Deanie McDonough and |
---|
38 | 38 | | her husband, Nick; to her grandchildren, Sarah Santone and her |
---|
39 | 39 | | husband, Jonathon, Brooke Lowthorp and her husband, Nathan, and |
---|
40 | 40 | | Peyton McDonough and his fiancée, Tina Hetherington; to her |

41 | 41 | | great-grandchildren, Paxton and Addie Santone; to her brother, |
