11 SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 400
22 WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to
33 recognize Margarito "Carlos" Guzman, a legendary entertainer,
44 television host, singer, and actor who is best known for his 1964
55 international hit, "Vestida de Blanco"; and
66 WHEREAS, Carlos Guzman was born February 22, 1940, in
77 Mission, Texas; he began singing as a child and won first prize at
88 an amateur-hour competition in the 1950s; he recorded his first
99 record in 1957 and has continued to record through 2018, amassing
1010 a catalog of 50 albums and numerous singles, including the
1111 Spanish versions of "Crying Time" and "96 Tears," which became a
1212 million-seller in Mexico; and
1313 WHEREAS, An international entertainer, he has performed in
1414 such prestigious venues as Madison Square Garden, the Hollywood
1515 Palladium, the Million Dollar Theater in Los Angeles, Bally's Las
1616 Vegas, the Cotton Bowl, Gilley's, and the Alamodome; he also
1717 hosted several television variety shows over the course of 30
1818 years, including his own show in the early 1990s; as an actor he
1919 has had roles in a Spanish soap opera and in several movies; and
2020 WHEREAS, His musical career includes touring with the
2121 Fabulosos Cuatro and the Tejano Legends, with whom he was
2222 nominated for several Grammy and Latin Grammy awards and won Best
2323 Tejano Album at the 43rd Annual Grammy Awards in 2001; and
2424 WHEREAS, Carlos Guzman has received many accolades over
2525 the course of his long and illustrious entertainment career, and
2626 the Texas Talent Musicians Association inducted him into its Hall
2727 of Fame in 1993 and honored him with a Lifetime Achievement Award
2828 in 2013; Mr. Guzman continues to entertain with his distinctive
2929 voice and style, all the while remaining dedicated to his family,
3030 his music, and his fans; now, therefore, be it
3131 RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 86th
3232 Legislature, hereby commend and applaud Carlos Guzman for his
3333 groundbreaking musical and entertainment career and his many
3434 artistic contributions to this state; and, be it further
3535 RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
3636 him as an expression of esteem from the Texas Senate.
