2 | 2 | | WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to |

3 | 3 | | recognize Margarito "Carlos" Guzman, a legendary entertainer, |

4 | 4 | | television host, singer, and actor who is best known for his 1964 |

5 | 5 | | international hit, "Vestida de Blanco"; and |
---|
6 | 6 | | WHEREAS, Carlos Guzman was born February 22, 1940, in |
---|
7 | 7 | | Mission, Texas; he began singing as a child and won first prize at |
---|
8 | 8 | | an amateur-hour competition in the 1950s; he recorded his first |
---|
9 | 9 | | record in 1957 and has continued to record through 2018, amassing |
---|
10 | 10 | | a catalog of 50 albums and numerous singles, including the |
---|
11 | 11 | | Spanish versions of "Crying Time" and "96 Tears," which became a |
---|
12 | 12 | | million-seller in Mexico; and |
---|
13 | 13 | | WHEREAS, An international entertainer, he has performed in |
---|
14 | 14 | | such prestigious venues as Madison Square Garden, the Hollywood |
---|
15 | 15 | | Palladium, the Million Dollar Theater in Los Angeles, Bally's Las |
---|
16 | 16 | | Vegas, the Cotton Bowl, Gilley's, and the Alamodome; he also |
---|
17 | 17 | | hosted several television variety shows over the course of 30 |
---|
18 | 18 | | years, including his own show in the early 1990s; as an actor he |
---|
19 | 19 | | has had roles in a Spanish soap opera and in several movies; and |
---|
20 | 20 | | WHEREAS, His musical career includes touring with the |
---|
21 | 21 | | Fabulosos Cuatro and the Tejano Legends, with whom he was |
---|
22 | 22 | | nominated for several Grammy and Latin Grammy awards and won Best |
---|
23 | 23 | | Tejano Album at the 43rd Annual Grammy Awards in 2001; and |

24 | 24 | | WHEREAS, Carlos Guzman has received many accolades over |
---|
25 | 25 | | the course of his long and illustrious entertainment career, and |
---|
26 | 26 | | the Texas Talent Musicians Association inducted him into its Hall |
---|
27 | 27 | | of Fame in 1993 and honored him with a Lifetime Achievement Award |
---|
28 | 28 | | in 2013; Mr. Guzman continues to entertain with his distinctive |
---|
29 | 29 | | voice and style, all the while remaining dedicated to his family, |
---|
30 | 30 | | his music, and his fans; now, therefore, be it |
---|
31 | 31 | | RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 86th |
---|
32 | 32 | | Legislature, hereby commend and applaud Carlos Guzman for his |
---|
33 | 33 | | groundbreaking musical and entertainment career and his many |
---|
34 | 34 | | artistic contributions to this state; and, be it further |
---|
35 | 35 | | RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for |
---|
36 | 36 | | him as an expression of esteem from the Texas Senate. |
