                            SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 400
 WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to
 recognize Margarito "Carlos" Guzman, a legendary entertainer,
 television host, singer, and actor who is best known for his 1964
 international hit, "Vestida de Blanco"; and
 WHEREAS, Carlos Guzman was born February 22, 1940, in
 Mission, Texas; he began singing as a child and won first prize at
 an amateur-hour competition in the 1950s; he recorded his first
 record in 1957 and has continued to record through 2018, amassing
 a catalog of 50 albums and numerous singles, including the
 Spanish versions of "Crying Time" and "96 Tears," which became a
 million-seller in Mexico; and
 WHEREAS, An international entertainer, he has performed in
 such prestigious venues as Madison Square Garden, the Hollywood
 Palladium, the Million Dollar Theater in Los Angeles, Bally's Las
 Vegas, the Cotton Bowl, Gilley's, and the Alamodome; he also
 hosted several television variety shows over the course of 30
 years, including his own show in the early 1990s; as an actor he
 has had roles in a Spanish soap opera and in several movies; and
 WHEREAS, His musical career includes touring with the
 Fabulosos Cuatro and the Tejano Legends, with whom he was
 nominated for several Grammy and Latin Grammy awards and won Best
 Tejano Album at the 43rd Annual Grammy Awards in 2001; and
 WHEREAS, Carlos Guzman has received many accolades over
 the course of his long and illustrious entertainment career, and
 the Texas Talent Musicians Association inducted him into its Hall
 of Fame in 1993 and honored him with a Lifetime Achievement Award
 in 2013; Mr. Guzman continues to entertain with his distinctive
 voice and style, all the while remaining dedicated to his family,
 his music, and his fans; now, therefore, be it
 RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 86th
 Legislature, hereby commend and applaud Carlos Guzman for his
 groundbreaking musical and entertainment career and his many
 artistic contributions to this state; and, be it further
 RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
 him as an expression of esteem from the Texas Senate.
