| 3 | 3 | | recognize the Houston Metropolitan Area Chapters of Alpha Kappa |

| 4 | 4 | | Alpha Sorority, which will welcome a new chapter, the Pearls of |

| 5 | 5 | | Lake Houston, on May 19, 2019; and |

| 6 | 6 | | WHEREAS, Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority is an international |
|---|
| 7 | 7 | | service organization established in 1908 on the campus of Howard |
|---|
| 8 | 8 | | University, in Washington, D.C.; the sorority is composed of |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | distinguished and successful women who project excellence in |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | their communities; and |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | WHEREAS, The Pearls of Lake Houston interest group |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | includes 63 women from diverse professional backgrounds; founded |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | in 2017, the organization partners with local businesses, school |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | districts, and individuals to serve the communities of New Caney, |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | Porter, Kingwood, Huffman, Atascocita, Lake Houston, and |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | Sheldon; and |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | WHEREAS, Since the group's inception, the members of the |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | Pearls of Lake Houston have worked diligently on behalf of their |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | communities; their many service projects have benefited |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | struggling children and families, local school districts, senior |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | living centers, and environmental causes; and |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | WHEREAS, The Pearls of Lake Houston group represents the |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | highest ideals of civic service, and it is truly fitting that the |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | organization become part of the prestigious Alpha Kappa Alpha |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | Sorority; now, therefore, be it |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 86th |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | Legislature, hereby commend the members of the Houston |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | Metropolitan Area Chapters of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority for |

| 29 | 29 | | their many contributions to their communities and extend to them |

| 30 | 30 | | congratulations on the newest addition to their family of |
|---|
