| 2 | 2 | | WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to |

| 3 | 3 | | recognize Jesus R. Torres, who retired as assistant chief of |
|---|
| 4 | 4 | | police of the Laredo Police Department after 37 years of |
|---|
| 5 | 5 | | distinguished service in law enforcement; and |
|---|
| 6 | 6 | | WHEREAS, Jesus Torres began his career in law enforcement |
|---|
| 7 | 7 | | in 1980 as a peace officer with the Laredo International Airport |
|---|
| 8 | 8 | | Police Department, and he was hired by the Laredo Police |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | Department the following year; and |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | WHEREAS, Mr. Torres rose through the ranks to become a |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | skilled criminal investigator and a respected supervisor; he is |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | credited with implementing new tactics to track violent crimes, |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | and his success in developing partnerships with the Mexican |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | Consulate Office and the United States Consulate authorities in |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | Nuevo Laredo, Mexico, ultimately led to the prosecution of |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | several notorious criminals and assassin groups; he was promoted |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | to assistant chief of police in 2009; and |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | WHEREAS, A trusted public servant, Jesus Torres has been a |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | speaker for a number of community organizations and has promoted |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | public safety and awareness in areas such as domestic violence, |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | homelessness, mental health issues, and addiction; he is |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | dedicated to helping his community, and he has earned the |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | enduring respect of area citizens; and |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | WHEREAS, Throughout his career, Jesus Torres manifested |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | uncommon talent in managing the complex responsibilities of his |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | positions in law enforcement, and his presence at the Laredo |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | Police Department will be greatly missed; now, therefore, be it |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 86th |
|---|
| 29 | 29 | | Legislature, hereby commend former assistant police chief Jesus |
|---|
| 30 | 30 | | R. Torres on his exceptional career and extend to him best wishes |
|---|
| 31 | 31 | | for the future; and, be it further |
|---|
| 32 | 32 | | RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for |
