44 Garnett Shelton Grant Sr.
55 WHEREAS, Memories of a life well lived may help to comfort
66 those saddened by the passing of Garnett Shelton Grant Sr. of
77 Gatesville on December 31, 2018, at the age of 82; and
88 WHEREAS, The son of Ed and Nell Grant, Garnett Grant was
99 born in Tarrant County on January 9, 1936, and he was raised with
1010 five siblings, Don, Mike, Ed, George, and Nellie; he graduated
1111 from Northwest High School in 1954 and answered his nation's call
1212 to duty by serving in the United States Army; on July 20, 1957, he
1313 married the former Nancy Page, and they shared a rewarding union
1414 of nearly 50 years until her death in 2006; he was a devoted
1515 father to their three children, Shelton, Kathy, and Michael, and
1616 he also experienced the joy of welcoming into his cherished
1717 family four grandchildren, Chris, Mike, Jana, and Kate, and two
1818 great-grandchildren, Aria and Lyric; and
1919 WHEREAS, After earning a bachelor's degree in business
2020 administration from Texas Wesleyan College in 1962, Mr. Grant
2121 taught at Westminster and Gatesville High Schools and the
2222 Gatesville State School for Boys; in 1967, he and his wife
2323 purchased a hamburger restaurant they called the Snak Shak; the
2424 eatery quickly grew to become a favorite meeting spot among
2525 Gatesville residents, and it was later renamed Grant's; driven by
2626 his entrepreneurial spirit, Mr. Grant went on to expand his
2727 business ventures to include additional restaurants as well as a
2828 number of commercial and residential real estate development
2929 projects; and
3030 WHEREAS, Mr. Grant was dedicated to serving his community,
3131 and he frequently offered the use of his properties for public
3232 events, especially those benefiting young people; he took an
3333 interest in politics and history, and he also loved to travel,
3434 both within the United States and abroad; his life was further
3535 enriched by the special relationship he shared with Beverly
3636 Lovejoy Boyd; and
3737 WHEREAS, Garnett Grant lived a life that was rich in
3838 personal and professional achievements, and he will forever be a
3939 source of inspiration to those he leaves behind; now, therefore,
4040 be it
4141 RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 86th
4242 Legislature, hereby pay tribute to the life of Garnett Shelton
4343 Grant Sr. and extend heartfelt sympathy to his relatives and
4444 friends; and, be it further
4545 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this Resolution be
4646 prepared for his family and that when the Texas Senate adjourns
4747 this day, it do so in memory of Garnett Shelton Grant Sr.
