| 2 | 2 | | WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas takes great |

| 3 | 3 | | pleasure in recognizing the Baylor University Lady Bears |

| 4 | 4 | | basketball team, which has won the 2019 National Collegiate |

| 5 | 5 | | Athletic Association championship competition; and |
|---|
| 6 | 6 | | WHEREAS, These skilled athletes earned their place in the |
|---|
| 7 | 7 | | Final Four and ultimately claimed the title over defending |
|---|
| 8 | 8 | | champions, the Notre Dame Fighting Irish, by a score of 82-81 in |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | front of a crowd of 20,000; and |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | WHEREAS, In their lead-up to the championship, the Lady |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | Bears were steadfast in maintaining their focus and keeping their |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | reputation as a dominant force in women's college basketball; and |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | WHEREAS, The talented players faced a third-quarter blow |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | in their final game of the tournament when their star forward |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | sustained a knee injury that pulled her off the court; their |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | opponents mounted a ferocious comeback to tie the game in the |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | fourth quarter, and the Lady Bears pushed their trademark defense |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | to claim their third national championship title with only eight |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | seconds left in the game; and |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | WHEREAS, Under the outstanding leadership of renowned |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | coach Kim Mulkey, the Baylor Lady Bears have maintained their |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | reputation for excellence on the court and have gained a loyal |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | following of fans around the state and across the nation; the |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | Lone Star State is proud of the team for their most recent of many |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | achievements; now, therefore, be it |

| 26 | 26 | | RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 86th |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | Legislature, hereby commend the members of the Baylor University |

| 28 | 28 | | Lady Bears basketball team for their impressive skills and fine |

| 29 | 29 | | sportsmanship and congratulate them on earning the 2019 National |
