The bill would amend the Property Code to provide that a justice court, in certain cases regarding the repair of residential rental property, may not award a judgment that exceeds $20,000 excluding interest and court costs. Current law caps this amount at $10,000.Based on information provided by the Office of Court Administration, no significant fiscal impact to the state court system is anticipated due to implementing the provisions of the bill.
