95 A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
106 AN ACT
117 relating to the maximum judgment amount awarded by a justice court
128 in certain civil cases regarding the repair of residential rental
139 property.
1410 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
1511 SECTION 1. Section 92.0563(e), Property Code, is amended to
1612 read as follows:
1713 (e) A justice court may not award a judgment under this
1814 section, including an order of repair, that exceeds $20,000
1915 [$10,000], excluding interest and costs of court.
2016 SECTION 2. Section 92.0563(e), Property Code, as amended by
2117 this Act, applies only to a cause of action filed on or after the
2218 effective date of this Act. A cause of action filed before that date
2319 is governed by the law in effect immediately before that date, and
2420 that law is continued in effect for that purpose.
2521 SECTION 3. This Act takes effect September 1, 2021.
