55 A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
66 AN ACT
77 relating to county jailer training on interacting with veterans in
88 the criminal justice system.
99 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
1010 SECTION 1. Section 1701.310, Occupations Code, is amended
1111 by adding Subsection (g) to read as follows:
1212 (g) The commission shall require a county jailer who has
1313 been licensed as a county jailer for more than one year to complete
1414 a one-time training program on interacting with veterans in the
1515 criminal justice system. A county jailer may complete the training
1616 program as an online course.
1717 SECTION 2. (a) The change in law made by this Act applies to
1818 a county jailer licensed under Chapter 1701, Occupations Code,
1919 regardless of whether the license was issued before, on, or after
2020 the effective date of this Act.
2121 (b) A county jailer who, as of the effective date of this
2222 Act, has been licensed as a county jailer for more than one year
2323 shall complete the training program described by Section
2424 1701.310(g), Occupations Code, as added by this Act, not later than
2525 September 1, 2023.
2626 SECTION 3. This Act takes effect September 1, 2021.
