9 | 9 | | BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: |

10 | 10 | | SECTION 1. Section 1701.310, Occupations Code, is amended |
---|
11 | 11 | | by adding Subsection (g) to read as follows: |
---|
12 | 12 | | (g) The commission shall require a county jailer who has |
---|
13 | 13 | | been licensed as a county jailer for more than one year to complete |
---|
14 | 14 | | a one-time training program on interacting with veterans in the |
---|
15 | 15 | | criminal justice system. A county jailer may complete the training |
---|
16 | 16 | | program as an online course. |
---|
17 | 17 | | SECTION 2. (a) The change in law made by this Act applies to |
---|
18 | 18 | | a county jailer licensed under Chapter 1701, Occupations Code, |
---|
19 | 19 | | regardless of whether the license was issued before, on, or after |
---|
20 | 20 | | the effective date of this Act. |
---|
21 | 21 | | (b) A county jailer who, as of the effective date of this |
---|
22 | 22 | | Act, has been licensed as a county jailer for more than one year |
---|
23 | 23 | | shall complete the training program described by Section |
---|
24 | 24 | | 1701.310(g), Occupations Code, as added by this Act, not later than |
---|
25 | 25 | | September 1, 2023. |
---|
26 | 26 | | SECTION 3. This Act takes effect September 1, 2021. |
