                    LEGISLATIVE BUDGET BOARD     Austin, Texas       FISCAL NOTE, 87TH LEGISLATIVE REGULAR SESSION             March 14, 2021       TO: Honorable Nicole Collier, Chair, House Committee on Criminal Jurisprudence     FROM: Jerry McGinty, Director, Legislative Budget Board      IN RE: HB148 by Toth (Relating to the limitations period for certain offenses involving dating or family violence.), As Introduced     No significant fiscal implication to the State is anticipated. The bill would amend Article 12.01 of the Code of Criminal Procedure to extend the statute of limitations for an assault or aggregated assault to five years if committed against another person whose relationship is defined by the Texas Family Code as family, dating, or sharing a household. In addition, the statute of limitations for continuous violence against the family would be extended to five years.According to the Office of Court Administration, no significant fiscal implication to the state court system is anticipated.
