| 9 | 11 | | BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: |

| 10 | 12 | | SECTION 1. Chapter 405, Labor Code, is amended by adding |

| 11 | 13 | | Section 405.0027 to read as follows: |
|---|
| 12 | 14 | | Sec. 405.0027. STUDY ON FIRST RESPONDER CLAIMS. (a) The |
|---|
| 13 | 15 | | group shall study workers' compensation claims involving first |
|---|
| 14 | 16 | | responders, as defined by Section 504.055. |
|---|
| 15 | 17 | | (b) The study must include an analysis of medical costs, |
|---|
| 16 | 18 | | return-to-work outcomes, access to and utilization of care, |
|---|
| 17 | 19 | | satisfaction with care, and health-related functional outcomes. |
|---|
| 18 | 20 | | (c) Not later than December 1, 2022, the group shall issue a |
|---|
| 19 | 21 | | report on the study conducted under this section to the governor, |
|---|
| 20 | 22 | | the lieutenant governor, the speaker of the house of |
|---|
| 21 | 23 | | representatives, and the legislature. |
|---|
| 22 | 24 | | (d) This section expires on January 1, 2023. |

| 23 | 25 | | SECTION 2. This Act takes effect September 1, 2021. |
