14 | 10 | | BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: |

15 | 11 | | SECTION 1. Section 30.00226, Government Code, is amended by |
---|
16 | 12 | | adding Subsection (c) to read as follows: |

17 | 13 | | (c) Instead of using a court reporter to preserve a record |
---|
18 | 14 | | in a case, the governing body may authorize the use of a good |
---|
19 | 15 | | quality electronic recording device to report court proceedings. If |
---|
20 | 16 | | the governing body authorizes an electronic recording, the court |
---|
21 | 17 | | reporter is not required to be present to certify the reporter's |
---|
22 | 18 | | record. The recording shall be kept for the 20-day period beginning |
---|
23 | 19 | | the day after the last day of the court proceeding, trial, or denial |
---|
24 | 20 | | of motion for new trial, whichever occurs last. If a case is |
---|
25 | 21 | | appealed, the proceedings shall be transcribed from the recording |
---|
26 | 22 | | by an official court reporter. |

27 | 23 | | SECTION 2. This Act takes effect September 1, 2021. |
