411 AN ACT
512 relating to a database of information about women with uterine
613 fibroids and to uterine fibroid education and research.
714 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
815 SECTION 1. Subtitle D, Title 2, Health and Safety Code, is
916 amended by adding Chapter 100A to read as follows:
1017 CHAPTER 100A. UTERINE FIBROID EDUCATION AND RESEARCH
1118 Sec. 100A.001. UTERINE FIBROID DATABASE. (a) Using
1219 available data collected by the department under Chapter 108, the
1320 department's Center for Health Statistics shall establish and
1421 maintain an electronic database of information related to uterine
1522 fibroids to increase awareness about uterine fibroids and ensure
1623 women receive the information and health care necessary to prevent
1724 and treat the condition. The database must include the:
1825 (1) demographic attributes of women diagnosed with
1926 uterine fibroids; and
2027 (2) treatments for uterine fibroids used by health
2128 care providers.
2229 (b) Information regarding a woman who is diagnosed with or
2330 treated for uterine fibroids that is collected by the department
2431 and maintained in the database under Subsection (a):
2532 (1) may not include any personally identifying
2633 information of the woman; and
2734 (2) is confidential and may be used only by the
2835 department or other person on behalf of the department for uterine
2936 fibroid research.
3037 Sec. 100A.002. UTERINE FIBROID EDUCATION. The department,
3138 in consultation with the Texas Medical Association, shall identify
3239 and post on the department's Internet website existing resources
3340 and educational materials on uterine fibroids to increase public
3441 awareness of uterine fibroids, including information on and
3542 awareness of the:
3643 (1) women of a race or ethnicity that has a
3744 statistically elevated risk of developing uterine fibroids; and
3845 (2) range of available treatment options for uterine
3946 fibroids that include non-hysterectomy treatments and procedures.
4047 SECTION 2. This Act takes effect September 1, 2021.
