4	11		AN ACT
5	12		relating to a database of information about women with uterine
6	13		fibroids and to uterine fibroid education and research.
7	14		BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
8	15		SECTION 1. Subtitle D, Title 2, Health and Safety Code, is
9	16		amended by adding Chapter 100A to read as follows:
10	17		CHAPTER 100A. UTERINE FIBROID EDUCATION AND RESEARCH
11	18		Sec. 100A.001. UTERINE FIBROID DATABASE. (a) Using
12	19		available data collected by the department under Chapter 108, the
13	20		department's Center for Health Statistics shall establish and
14	21		maintain an electronic database of information related to uterine
15	22		fibroids to increase awareness about uterine fibroids and ensure
16	23		women receive the information and health care necessary to prevent
17	24		and treat the condition. The database must include the:
18	25		(1) demographic attributes of women diagnosed with
19	26		uterine fibroids; and
20	27		(2) treatments for uterine fibroids used by health
21	28		care providers.
22	29		(b) Information regarding a woman who is diagnosed with or
23	30		treated for uterine fibroids that is collected by the department
24	31		and maintained in the database under Subsection (a):
25	32		(1) may not include any personally identifying
26	33		information of the woman; and
27	34		(2) is confidential and may be used only by the
28	35		department or other person on behalf of the department for uterine
29	36		fibroid research.
30	37		Sec. 100A.002. UTERINE FIBROID EDUCATION. The department,
31	38		in consultation with the Texas Medical Association, shall identify
32	39		and post on the department's Internet website existing resources
33	40		and educational materials on uterine fibroids to increase public
34	41		awareness of uterine fibroids, including information on and
35	42		awareness of the:
36	43		(1) women of a race or ethnicity that has a
37	44		statistically elevated risk of developing uterine fibroids; and
38	45		(2) range of available treatment options for uterine
39	46		fibroids that include non-hysterectomy treatments and procedures.
40	47		SECTION 2. This Act takes effect September 1, 2021.
