4	10		AN ACT
5	11		relating to eligibility requirements to hold a political party
6	12		office.
7	13		BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
8	14		SECTION 1. Section 161.005, Election Code, is amended by
9	15		amending Subsections (a) and (c) and adding Subsection (a-1) to
10	16		read as follows:
11	17		(a) To be eligible to be a candidate for or to serve as an
12	18		officer [a county or precinct chair] of a political party, a person
13	19		must:
14	20		(1) [be a qualified voter of the county; and
15	21		[(2)] except as provided by Subsection (c), not be a
16	22		candidate for nomination or election to, or be the holder of, an
17	23		elective office of the federal, state, or county government; and
18	24		(2) if the office is a county or precinct chair of a
19	25		political party, be a qualified voter of the county.
20	26		(a-1) For purposes of this section, the following are
21		-	officers of a political party:
22		-	(1) a precinct chair;
23		-	(2) a county chair; and
24		-	(3) a member, a chair, or a vice chair of a state
25		-	executive committee of a political party.

	28	+	member, vice chair, and chair of a state executive committee of a
	29	+	political party.
26	30		(c) A candidate for nomination or election to, or the holder
27	31		of, an elective office of the federal, state, or county government
28	32		is eligible to serve as an officer [a county or precinct chair] of a
29	33		political party to which Chapter 181 applies.
30		-	SECTION 2. This Act takes effect September 1, 2021.
