105 A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
116 AN ACT
127 relating to the definition of close relative of a deceased victim
138 for purposes of certain laws relating to the release of an inmate on
149 parole or to mandatory supervision.
1510 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
1611 SECTION 1. Section 508.117(g)(1), Government Code, is
1712 amended to read as follows:
1813 (1) "Close relative of a deceased victim" means a
1914 person who, regardless of whether the victim's death was related to
2015 the offense committed, was:
2116 (A) the spouse of the victim at the time of the
2217 victim's death;
2318 (B) a parent of the deceased victim;
2419 (C) an adult brother, sister, or child of the
2520 deceased victim; or
2621 (D) the nearest relative of the deceased victim
2722 by consanguinity, if the persons described by Paragraphs (A)
2823 through (C) are deceased or are incapacitated due to physical or
2924 mental illness or infirmity.
3025 SECTION 2. This Act takes effect September 1, 2021.
