15 | 10 | | BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: |

16 | 11 | | SECTION 1. Section 508.117(g)(1), Government Code, is |
---|
17 | 12 | | amended to read as follows: |
---|
18 | 13 | | (1) "Close relative of a deceased victim" means a |
---|
19 | 14 | | person who, regardless of whether the victim's death was related to |
---|
20 | 15 | | the offense committed, was: |
---|
21 | 16 | | (A) the spouse of the victim at the time of the |
---|
22 | 17 | | victim's death; |
---|
23 | 18 | | (B) a parent of the deceased victim; |
---|
24 | 19 | | (C) an adult brother, sister, or child of the |
---|
25 | 20 | | deceased victim; or |
---|
26 | 21 | | (D) the nearest relative of the deceased victim |
---|
27 | 22 | | by consanguinity, if the persons described by Paragraphs (A) |
---|
28 | 23 | | through (C) are deceased or are incapacitated due to physical or |
---|
29 | 24 | | mental illness or infirmity. |
---|
30 | 25 | | SECTION 2. This Act takes effect September 1, 2021. |
