A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
AN ACT
relating to the issuance of specialty license plates for certain
volunteer firefighters, fire protection personnel, and industrial
firefighters.
BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
SECTION 1. Section 504.513, Transportation Code, is amended
by amending Subsection (a) and adding Subsection (c) to read as
follows:
(a) The department shall issue specialty license plates
for:
(1) current or retired volunteer firefighters
certified by:
(A) the Texas Commission on Fire Protection; or
(B) the State Firemen's and Fire Marshals'
Association of Texas; [and]
(2) current or retired fire protection personnel as
that term is defined by Section 419.021, Government Code; and
(3) current or retired industrial firefighters
certified by the State Firemen's and Fire Marshals' Association of
Texas.
(c) After deduction of the department's administrative
costs, the remainder of the fee for issuance of the license plates
shall be deposited to the credit of an account created by the
comptroller in the manner provided by Section 504.6012(b). Money
deposited to that account may be used only by the Texas Commission
on Fire Protection to make grants to an organization of
professional firefighters located in this state that provides
emergency relief and scholarship funds to professional
firefighters and their dependents.
SECTION 2. This Act takes effect September 1, 2021.
