69 relating to displays and exhibits located on the grounds of the
710 Alamo complex.
811 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
912 SECTION 1. This Act may be cited as the Texas Heroes Act.
1013 SECTION 2. Subchapter I, Chapter 31, Natural Resources
1114 Code, is amended by adding Section 31.456 to read as follows:
12- Sec. 31.456. HISTORIC DISPLAYS AND EXHIBITS. (a) The land
13- office shall, to the best of the office's ability, ensure that the
14- displays and exhibits located on the grounds of the Alamo complex,
15- including displays and exhibits located in a museum, focus on:
16- (1) the story of the Texas Revolution;
15+ Sec. 31.456. HISTORIC DISPLAYS AND EXHIBITS. The land
16+ office shall ensure that the displays and exhibits located on the
17+ grounds of the Alamo complex, including displays and exhibits
18+ located in a museum, prominently feature:
19+ (1) the story of the 1836 Battle of the Alamo;
1720 (2) the history of the Texians and Tejanos who fought
18- in the 1836 Battle of the Alamo;
21+ in the 1836 Battle of the Alamo; and
1922 (3) the grievances to the Mexican federal government
2023 listed in the Declaration of Independence of the Republic of Texas
21- dated March 2, 1836;
22- (4) historical documents and artifacts;
23- (5) the story of Joe, a survivor of the 1836 Battle of
24- the Alamo who told the story of the battle across the United States,
25- and the stories of other Black Americans who were present at the
26- battle, including Charlie and Bettie;
27- (6) the role of slavery in the 1836 Battle of the
28- Alamo; and
29- (7) the unique role that the 1836 Battle of the Alamo
30- and those Texians and Tejanos who fought in the 1836 Battle of the
31- Alamo played in the history of the United States, including Texas's
32- commitment to continued union with the United States and shared
33- principles of freedom and sovereignty.
34- (b) The land office shall consult with local governmental
35- entities and local historians when developing and reviewing the
36- displays and exhibits located on the grounds of the Alamo complex.

3725 SECTION 3. This Act takes effect September 1, 2021.
