| 10 | 10 | BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: | |
| 11 | 11 | SECTION 1. Section 121.007, Health and Safety Code, is | |
| 12 | 12 | amended by amending Subsection (a) and adding Subsection (d) to | |
| 13 | 13 | read as follows: | |
| 14 | 14 | (a) The department shall [may] designate not less than 22 | |
| 15 | 15 | geographic areas of the state as public health regions to provide | |
| 16 | 16 | public health services. | |
| 17 | 17 | (d) The department shall require each regional director to | |
| 18 | 18 | collaborate with the regional council of governments of any county | |
| 19 | 19 | or municipality in the public health region served by the regional | |
| 20 | 20 | director. | |
| 21 | 21 | SECTION 2. As soon as practicable after the effective date | |
| 22 | 22 | of this Act, the Department of State Health Services shall | |
| 23 | 23 | designate public health regions as required by Section 121.007, | |
| 24 | 24 | Health and Safety Code, as amended by this Act, and appoint regional | |
| 25 | 25 | directors to those public health regions as required by that | |
| 26 | 26 | section. | |
| 27 | 27 | SECTION 3. This Act takes effect September 1, 2021. |
