A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
AN ACT
relating to the designation of public health regions and
collaboration between a regional director and a regional council of
governments.
BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
SECTION 1. Section 121.007, Health and Safety Code, is
amended by amending Subsection (a) and adding Subsection (d) to
read as follows:
(a) The department shall [may] designate not less than 22
geographic areas of the state as public health regions to provide
public health services.
(d) The department shall require each regional director to
collaborate with the regional council of governments of any county
or municipality in the public health region served by the regional
director.
SECTION 2. As soon as practicable after the effective date
of this Act, the Department of State Health Services shall
designate public health regions as required by Section 121.007,
Health and Safety Code, as amended by this Act, and appoint regional
directors to those public health regions as required by that
section.
SECTION 3. This Act takes effect September 1, 2021.
