A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
AN ACT
relating to the composition of the statewide passenger rail system
coordinated by the Texas Department of Transportation.
BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
SECTION 1. Section 201.6012, Transportation Code, is
amended to read as follows:
Sec. 201.6012. COORDINATION OF STATEWIDE PASSENGER RAIL
SYSTEM. (a) To facilitate the development and interconnectivity
of rail systems in this state, the department shall coordinate
activities regarding the planning, construction, operation, and
maintenance of a statewide passenger rail system. The department
shall coordinate with other entities involved with passenger rail
systems, including governmental entities, private entities, and
nonprofit corporations.
(b) A statewide passenger rail system described by
Subsection (a) does not include high-speed rail as defined by
Section 112.201.
SECTION 2. This Act takes effect September 1, 2021.
