| 12 | 7 | | relating to the use of the compensatory education allotment for |

| 13 | 8 | | programs that build certain social and emotional skills. |

| 14 | 9 | | BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: |

| 15 | 10 | | SECTION 1. Section 48.104(j-1), Education Code, is amended |
|---|
| 16 | 11 | | to read as follows: |
|---|
| 17 | 12 | | (j-1) In addition to other purposes for which funds |
|---|
| 18 | 13 | | allocated under this section may be used, those funds may also be |
|---|
| 19 | 14 | | used to: |
|---|
| 20 | 15 | | (1) provide child-care services or assistance with |
|---|
| 21 | 16 | | child-care expenses for students at risk of dropping out of school |
|---|
| 22 | 17 | | under[, as described by] Section 29.081(d) because the students are |
|---|
| 23 | 18 | | parents [29.081(d)(5)]; [or] |
|---|
| 24 | 19 | | (2) pay the costs associated with services provided |
|---|
| 25 | 20 | | through a life skills program in accordance with Sections |
|---|
| 26 | 21 | | 29.085(b)(1) and (3)-(7); or |
|---|
| 27 | 22 | | (3) provide programs that build skills related to |
|---|
| 28 | 23 | | managing emotions, establishing and maintaining positive |
|---|
| 29 | 24 | | relationships, and making responsible decisions. |

| 30 | 25 | | SECTION 2. This Act takes effect immediately if it receives |
|---|
| 31 | 26 | | a vote of two-thirds of all the members elected to each house, as |
|---|
| 32 | 27 | | provided by Section 39, Article III, Texas Constitution. If this |
|---|
| 33 | 28 | | Act does not receive the vote necessary for immediate effect, this |
|---|
| 34 | 29 | | Act takes effect September 1, 2021. |
