11 | 7 | | relating to the staggering of terms of aldermen on the governing |

12 | 8 | | body of a Type A general-law municipality. |

13 | 9 | | BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: |

14 | 10 | | SECTION 1. Section 22.034, Local Government Code, is |
---|
15 | 11 | | amended by adding Subsection (d) to read as follows: |
---|
16 | 12 | | (d) If the aldermen of the governing body of a municipality |
---|
17 | 13 | | are not serving staggered terms of office as provided by Subsection |
---|
18 | 14 | | (b), the governing body by majority vote may provide for the |
---|
19 | 15 | | staggering of terms by requiring the drawing of lots by the |
---|
20 | 16 | | aldermen. |
---|
21 | 17 | | SECTION 2. This Act takes effect immediately if it receives |
---|
22 | 18 | | a vote of two-thirds of all the members elected to each house, as |
---|
23 | 19 | | provided by Section 39, Article III, Texas Constitution. If this |
---|
24 | 20 | | Act does not receive the vote necessary for immediate effect, this |
---|
25 | 21 | | Act takes effect September 1, 2021. |
