| 9 | 9 | BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: | |
| 10 | 10 | SECTION 1. Chapter 823, Government Code, is amended by | |
| 11 | 11 | adding Subchapter G to read as follows: | |
| 12 | 12 | SUBCHAPTER G. ADDITIONAL SERVICE CREDIT RELATED TO COVID-19 | |
| 13 | 13 | Sec. 823.551. ADDITIONAL SERVICE CREDIT FOR EMPLOYMENT | |
| 14 | 14 | DURING CERTAIN SCHOOL YEARS. (a) A member is entitled to service | |
| 15 | 15 | credit under this section if the member: | |
| 16 | 16 | (1) was employed by an employer on a full-time basis | |
| 17 | 17 | during the 2019-2020 or 2020-2021 school year; and | |
| 18 | 18 | (2) is entitled to service credit for that service. | |
| 19 | 19 | (b) Notwithstanding Section 821.006 or any other law, other | |
| 20 | 20 | than Section 825.506, a person described by Subsection (a) is | |
| 21 | 21 | entitled to an additional year of service credit for each year of | |
| 22 | 22 | service credit earned during the 2019-2020 or 2020-2021 school | |
| 23 | 23 | year. | |
| 24 | 24 | (c) The system shall grant a member entitled to service | |
| 25 | 25 | credit under this section the appropriate amount of additional | |
| 26 | 26 | service credit. | |
| 27 | 27 | SECTION 2. Section 823.551, Government Code, as added by | |
| 28 | 28 | this Act, applies only to a member of the Teacher Retirement System | |
| 29 | 29 | of Texas who retires on or after the effective date of this Act. | |
| 30 | 30 | SECTION 3. This Act takes effect September 1, 2021. |
