A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
AN ACT
relating to statewide requirements for electric energy storage.
BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
SECTION 1. Subchapter E, Chapter 35, Utilities Code, is
amended by adding Section 35.153 to read as follows:
Sec. 35.153. ELECTRICITY STORAGE GOAL. The commission, in
coordination with the independent organization certified under
Section 39.151 for the ERCOT power region, shall adopt rules
necessary to meet a goal of having electric energy storage capacity
to meet twenty percent of peak summer and winter demand within ERCOT
by December 31, 2026.
SECTION 2. This Act takes effect September 1, 2021.
