| 7 | 14 | | BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: |

| 8 | 15 | | SECTION 1. This Act may be cited as Marilyn's Law. |
|---|
| 9 | 16 | | SECTION 2. Chapter 193, Health and Safety Code, is amended |
|---|
| 10 | 17 | | by adding Section 193.012 to read as follows: |
|---|
| 11 | 18 | | Sec. 193.012. NOTICE OF CERTAIN DEATH CERTIFICATE |
|---|
| 12 | 19 | | AMENDMENTS. For a death certificate that is not a pending death |
|---|
| 13 | 20 | | certificate, a person who submits to the department a request for an |
|---|
| 14 | 21 | | amendment to modify the medical certification information on the |
|---|
| 15 | 22 | | certificate shall provide in the manner prescribed by the |
|---|
| 16 | 23 | | department written notice of the modification to a decedent's next |
|---|
| 17 | 24 | | of kin. |
|---|
| 18 | 25 | | SECTION 3. Section 193.012, Health and Safety Code, as |
|---|
| 19 | 26 | | added by this Act, applies only to a death certificate for which an |
|---|
| 20 | 27 | | amendment to modify the medical certification information is |
|---|
| 21 | 28 | | requested on or after the effective date of this Act. |
|---|
| 22 | 29 | | SECTION 4. This Act takes effect September 1, 2021. |
