| 7 | 13 | | BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: |

| 8 | 14 | | SECTION 1. Section 129.001, Government Code, is amended to |
|---|
| 9 | 15 | | read as follows: |
|---|
| 10 | 16 | | Sec. 129.001. DEFINITION. In this chapter, "public safety |
|---|
| 11 | 17 | | employee" means a peace officer, firefighter, detention officer, |
|---|
| 12 | 18 | | county jailer, [or] emergency medical services employee, or |
|---|
| 13 | 19 | | emergency service dispatcher of this state or a political |
|---|
| 14 | 20 | | subdivision of this state. |
|---|
| 15 | 21 | | SECTION 2. The change in law made by this Act applies to a |
|---|
| 16 | 22 | | person who, on or after the effective date of this Act, enters a |
|---|
| 17 | 23 | | public safety employees treatment court program created under |
|---|
| 18 | 24 | | Chapter 129, Government Code, regardless of whether the person |
|---|
| 19 | 25 | | entering the program committed the offense for which the person |
|---|
| 20 | 26 | | enters the program before, on, or after the effective date of this |
|---|
| 21 | 27 | | Act. |
|---|
| 22 | 28 | | SECTION 3. This Act takes effect September 1, 2021. |
