| 6 | 12 | | alternate work schedule for police dispatchers. |

| 7 | 13 | | BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: |

| 8 | 14 | | SECTION 1. Section 142.0015, Local Government Code, is |
|---|
| 9 | 15 | | amended by adding Subsection (k) to read as follows: |
|---|
| 10 | 16 | | (k) For purposes of this subsection, "police dispatcher" |
|---|
| 11 | 17 | | means an operator or dispatcher employed by a municipal police |
|---|
| 12 | 18 | | department who provides communication support services for the |
|---|
| 13 | 19 | | police department by responding to requests for assistance. If a |
|---|
| 14 | 20 | | majority of police dispatchers for a municipal police department |
|---|
| 15 | 21 | | vote in favor of an alternate work schedule, the municipality may |
|---|
| 16 | 22 | | adopt an alternate work schedule for the department's dispatchers. |
|---|
| 17 | 23 | | A dispatcher working under an alternate work schedule adopted under |
|---|
| 18 | 24 | | this subsection is entitled to overtime pay if the dispatcher works |
|---|
| 19 | 25 | | more hours during a calendar month than the number of hours in the |
|---|
| 20 | 26 | | normal work month of the majority of the employees of the |
|---|
| 21 | 27 | | municipality other than fire fighters and police officers. |

| 22 | 28 | | SECTION 2. This Act takes effect September 1, 2021. |
