410 AN ACT
511 relating to the authority of certain municipalities to use an
612 alternate work schedule for police dispatchers.
713 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
814 SECTION 1. Section 142.0015, Local Government Code, is
915 amended by adding Subsection (k) to read as follows:
1016 (k) For purposes of this subsection, "police dispatcher"
1117 means an operator or dispatcher employed by a municipal police
1218 department who provides communication support services for the
1319 police department by responding to requests for assistance. If a
1420 majority of police dispatchers for a municipal police department
1521 vote in favor of an alternate work schedule, the municipality may
1622 adopt an alternate work schedule for the department's dispatchers.
1723 A dispatcher working under an alternate work schedule adopted under
1824 this subsection is entitled to overtime pay if the dispatcher works
1925 more hours during a calendar month than the number of hours in the
2026 normal work month of the majority of the employees of the
2127 municipality other than fire fighters and police officers.
2228 SECTION 2. This Act takes effect September 1, 2021.
